Walk around the wire

6,798 preschool children and educators participated in the hike on the first day

The most massive sports and recreational event in Slovenia has begun, with more than 45,000 participants expected by this Saturday.

The City of Ljubljana and Timing Ljubljana today, Thursday, 7 May, held the first part of the three-day event, which has been bringing all generations together through exercise and recreation for sixty-eight years. The first to set off on the hike were children from kindergartens, and 6,798 preschool children and educators took part on the first day.

The event will continue on Friday with hikes for schoolchildren and high school students, and on Saturday, 9 May, recreational hiking enthusiasts and runners will take to the Ljubljana wire trail.

Sport Vision Hike

Pre-registration for the Saturday hike is not required. Anyone can register for free at the entry points (Vič, Šiška, Bežigrad, Jarše, Polje, Fužine, Rudnik and Livada) from 6 am. Everyone can walk as much as they want or can, and anyone who walks the entire 33 km route will receive a medal. The finish lines will be open until 5 pm. We recommend using the mobile application Pot ob žici to collect stamps, but a control card is also available instead. Participants of shorter hikes with a finish line at Trg Republike will receive a commemorative badge there. This finish line will be open until 12 pm.

OTP banka Three-person run

The Saturday part of the event also includes traditional three-person runs at the Garmin 12.5 km run or the Zavarovalnica Sava 20 km run in the member and veteran categories, as well as the Citypark and Frutabela 3 km runs for primary and secondary schools and educators. Registration is no longer possible! Of the total of 1618 triples, 914 ran the shorter distance and 178 the longer distance at recreational distances.

The final event will be held at Kongresni trg: the cultural program will include the traditional performance of the Partisan Choir at 10:30, followed by choirs from Ljubljana elementary schools.
